Hi! My name is Gary and this is my home and garden improvement blog. My passion for working on my home and garden began when I bought my first house. It was a run down little place in the suburbs of Sydney. Even though the place was in a bit of a state, it was in a fantastic location. I spent many hours reading up on DIY and gardening tips before setting about improving the place. It was a lot of hard work but it was also a lot of fun. I learnt a lot during that time so I decided to start this blog.

You and your home builder are going to have a close working relationship. During which, you'll discuss each aspect of your new home right down to the very last detail. One of the decisions the home builder asks you to make is what you want your entrance to look like. You'll want it to be as inviting as possible, so ask them to incorporate these items into the entrance.
Side Windows
Ask the builder to install a window on the both sides of the door. Not only will this add a trendy look, but you'll also bring sunlight into your home.
Decorate the windows with sheer curtains or leave them without, depending on what your tastes are. Decorate them during the holidays to add an extra holiday spirit flair.
Porch Columns
If you have a long porch, ask the builder to add columns. These work to provide a more elegant feel to the entrance area, even in a ranch-style home. Have the columns painted white or the same colour of your shutters or door and window trim.
If you don't have a long porch area, ask the builder to incorporate one column on each side of the door. You can have them installed against the wall, between the door and the windows, or out on the end of the entrance's roof.
Stone Tiles
Ask for stone tiles leading from the driveway to the front door. However, choose a stone that's a little roughed up so that there will be enough traction; people won't slip and fall when coming to visit you.
Use the same stone on the porch to provide a uniform look to the entire area. Choose a colour that matches well with the home.
Double Doors
Request a home design that utilizes the rich look of double doors. You will likely only use one door when guests come over, but the look is trendy and provides a stately feel to your entrance. Be sure to choose doorknockers that not only match the rest of the area, but also stand out a little to provide a detailed look.
Note: Double doors may not work properly with the rest of the design, especially if you have a small entrance area on the inside of the home. Choose a single door if you're hoping for more indoor space.
Consider decorating and potted plant possibilities when designing the entrance to your home. Ask your home builder for other ideas to provide a unique and trendy look, or for ideas that offer a more traditional feel and won't go out of style. Share this with mates who are going through the home building process.
