Great Home and Garden Improvement Tips

Hi! My name is Gary and this is my home and garden improvement blog. My passion for working on my home and garden began when I bought my first house. It was a run down little place in the suburbs of Sydney. Even though the place was in a bit of a state, it was in a fantastic location. I spent many hours reading up on DIY and gardening tips before setting about improving the place. It was a lot of hard work but it was also a lot of fun. I learnt a lot during that time so I decided to start this blog.

How To Fix Your Air Conditioner

by admin

During the summer heatwaves you need a working air conditioner to stay cool. When an air conditioner breaks down, it can make it extremely uncomfortable to be inside your hot house. Here is a simple list of some things that can potentially fix your air conditioner.

Replace Dirty Filters

Replacing filters inside an air conditioner is a part of maintenance that should be done every three to four months. A dirty filter inside an air conditioner will cause the unit to work improperly as the dirt will block cold air from passing through. A dirty filter can also lead to compressor or the fan motor failure, as these components must work twice as hard bring the home to the proper temperature. Changing the filter every three months will ensure that unit has what it needs to operate properly. This will keep the unit operating at maximum efficiency.

Unblock Any Vents

A blocked vent will prevent cold air from travelling through and being dispersed to the rest of the house. A blocked vent will also make your air conditioner work that much harder as it is unable to cool the house to the temperature set at the thermostat. Take the time to check all the vents and clear the passageways so that cool air can pass through without a problem. If you have children, make sure that the vents all have guards in place to prevent toys from being put down the vents and potentially preventing the passage of cool air.

Check The Drains & Look For Possible Leaks

When the weather is extremely humid, the air conditioner will have an excess amount of condensation that it needs to drain. If the drains on the unit are clogged or not draining properly, it could cause the unit to malfunction or cease operating entirely. An air conditioner also needs refrigerant to operate properly, so check to make sure that the unit is not leaking. A unit with refrigerant leaking can also be harmful to the environment as the liquid is toxic. If you encounter a leak of any kind you should immediately call a technician to fix the unit and clean up the leaking fluid.

If any of the things outlined above do not successfully work to fix your air conditioning unit then you should call for a service person to come and take a look at the problem. An air conditioning specialist, such as DACS Air Conditioning & Electrical Services, will work to diagnose the issues that are preventing your unit from functioning properly and keeping your house cool.
