Great Home and Garden Improvement Tips

Hi! My name is Gary and this is my home and garden improvement blog. My passion for working on my home and garden began when I bought my first house. It was a run down little place in the suburbs of Sydney. Even though the place was in a bit of a state, it was in a fantastic location. I spent many hours reading up on DIY and gardening tips before setting about improving the place. It was a lot of hard work but it was also a lot of fun. I learnt a lot during that time so I decided to start this blog.

Essential Steps to Maximise Your Home's Kerb Appeal

by admin

Home-owners spend a huge amount of time improving the inside of their home to enhance its appearance, but what can be done to improve your home from the outside? The exterior will be what visitors or prospective buyers see first, so it is important that their first impression of your home is a positive one. How your property looks from the outside is known as kerb appeal, and there are a few ways in which you can improve this to create an attractive and welcoming home.

Upgrade Your Front Door

The first thing that people notice when visiting a house will be the front door. A lick of paint can do wonders to improve kerb appeal and give your home both colour and character. This can be furthered by adding decorative house numbers, a brand new knocker and letterbox.

Add Plant Life

Flowers and plants instantly inject colour and life to your home. Hanging baskets, planted flowers outside and flower-boxes on windowsills can make a big difference, but be sure to regularly water and care for these plants otherwise your home will have an unkempt appearance (see below).

Tidy Up Outside

One of the quickest ways to make a bad impression is untidiness. Remove any unsightly items (such as dustbins or bikes) and move them to the back garden. You should also cut back any trees, bushes and plants to create an attractive and clear pathway to your home.

Spring Clean The Exterior

Just like the inside of your home, the exterior needs regular cleaning. This includes washing all of the windows, walls and pathways outside and gutter cleaning. Clearing your gutters will not only improve the appearance, it will also stop clogs from occurring which could do costly rot damage to the roof, side of the building and even the foundations. You can try to clean the gutters yourself, but you may be better off hiring a professional service, such as PLMGN Maintenance Services Gutter Cleaning.

Add Lighting

A house kept in the dark can be unnerving, so it is a good idea to install lighting leading up to your front door. This can accentuate certain areas and make your home look inviting. In addition, exterior lighting improves home security as it increases visibility after dark.

A lot of attention is placed on the interior of your home, but the exterior needs just as much care. How your house looks from the kerb will have a direct impact on how it is perceived by you, passers by and prospective buyers. Following these steps will maximise kerb appeal and allow you to take great pride in the appearance of your home.
